If you're looking for a quiet little escape from the city heat, Wakan Village in Oman might just be your next fave hidden spot.

I visited Wakan last July—yes, peak summer—but guess what? While most places in Oman felt like standing inside an oven, Wakan was surprisingly cooler. It’s up in the Western Hajar Mountains, about 2 hours from Muscat, and totally worth the drive.
Getting To Wakan Village, Oman
We started early in the morning (highly recommend this because of the heat). After a peaceful drive, we reached the village entrance and parked our car there. Since regular cars can’t go up the mountain trail, we hired a 4-wheel drive for 10 OMR (for two people). Quick ride, cute views.
The Wakan Village Walk
Once you’re up there, the Wakan hike starts. Don’t worry, it’s mostly stairs and super manageable. Even if you’re not a hiking girlie, you’ll be fine. The trail takes you through terraced gardens, tiny homes, and mountain views that totally deserve a spot on your Instagram.
But the highlight for me? The honesty-based coffee and tea stops. Yup, you’ll find little stops with karak (Omani chai), local honey, and Arabic coffee without any shopkeeper. You take what you want and drop your payment in a little box. Pure vibes and good trust energy.
What to Expect
Peace and quiet: There were barely any crowds. Perfect for a calm getaway.
Cooler temperatures than the city. Even in summer!
A mix of nature, tradition, and really wholesome moments (like sipping chai with a view).
Cute photo spots everywhere (just bring comfy shoes and water).
Best Time to Visit Wakan Village
If you're planning a visit, January to April is the best time to visit Wakan. That’s when you’ll catch the peach blossoms and blooming terraces. July wasn’t bad either, but spring is when the village really shows off.
Final thoughts? Wakan Village is one of those cool places in Oman during summer that not a lot of people talk about—but they should. It’s an easy day trip from Muscat, doesn’t need a lot of planning, and gives major calm girl energy.
Definitely a spot to add to your Oman travel itinerary. ✨
Until next time, Glad I drifted here.
